Margaret Leaututy
I moved in on Saturday and my daughter was born on Tuesday

My name is Margaret and I’m 35 and I’ve been living in Minto for about eight or nine years. My surname is Leaututy. It’s a Samoan name.

It was real hectic when I moved in because it was on the Saturday and my daughter was born on the Tuesday. Everything was still in boxes when I went to the hospital. We were still unpacking. When I first went to have a look [at the house] all the workmen were still there, fixing things up inside. They were replacing the carpet and stuff. I was happy with it because it’s pretty big inside.

I only had one child and my second one was due when I moved. I now have five, Pina’s 11, Ena’s 9, Chris’s 7, Jason’s 5 and Michael’s 3.

There are about 25 to 30 kids in my street. My girls do netball and the boys are going to start football this year.

All my neighbours get along and if you need anything someone will always help you. Sometimes people might run out of milk or if my neighbour’s running a bit late, her son stays at my house until she gets home.

The redevelopment will probably be good for me because I’ll be going into a bigger house. I’m supposed to be getting a letter this month and we’ll get 12 months notice.

I’ll probably have to go to a different area as they don’t have very many four bedroom houses here. I will miss the people here.
